From Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, the 15th of May 2018, at 6.00 p.m., Guillemette Andreu-Lanoë, Honorary Director of the Department of Egyptian Antiquities at the Louvre Museum, will give a lecture entitled “L’art du dessin à Deir el Medina: l'univers imagé des ostraca figurés”. The conference will be focused on the decorations of the limestone flakes (called ostraca), found at the village of Deir el-Medina.

In order to organize an exhibition dedicated to the art of drawing in Ancient Egypt, a systematic campaign on the painted ostraka of the Louvre collection was the occasion to study on the material, technological and artistic level these little objects, which are often considered merely from an anecdotal point of view. In recent years, this idea has been reconsidered and now we know that we actually have a lot to learn from these drawings, as they can often integrate our knowledge about the craftsmen and artists community of Deir el-Medina, the area where almost all the figured ostraka were found.
During the lecture, two figured ostraka of the Museo Egizio collection and some other samples from the Louvre Museum will be analysed. This will be the occasion to ask questions and suggest some interpretations.

Free entrance, depending on seat availability.

The lecture will be given in French.
