The fundraising campaign “Everyday Objects, Extraordinary Stories. Help Us Share Them” begins
In anticipation of the 120th anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Kha and Merit (1906–2026)—the most complete non-royal funerary assemblage outside of Egypt to have survived to this day—the Museo Egizio is planning to renew the exhibition room dedicated to their burial goods with an ambitious project. The new display will highlight the latest research on the artifacts and the archaeological site where they were found, also using new technologies.
Thanks to recent photogrammetric models of the excavation, it will be possible to bring a virtual reconstruction of the tomb into the room, allowing visitors to relive the moment of its discovery by the then-director of the Museo Egizio, Ernesto Schiaparelli.
A new arrangement of the objects, along with updated gallery texts, will make the content accessible to everyone. Kha’s Book of the Dead will be displayed in a new case that improves its conservation, and an infographic will present some of the most significant spells contained in the papyrus. For the first time, all of the textiles from the burial assemblage of Kha and Merit will be displayed together in a new showcase.
At the heart of the project are the objects themselves, which will be restored in the gallery through live, visible conservation work.
This restoration will only be possible thanks to your support: by donating to the fundraising campaign, you can make a difference—helping us share the extraordinary stories preserved in Kha and Merit’s artifacts and safeguarding their legacy for future generations.
The fundraising campaign starts today.
With your donation, you will become part of a project that brings together research, technology, and a passion for ancient Egypt.
