The considerable amount of material preserved in the Museo Egizio Photographic Archive has been recently digitised, reorganised and studied in order to make it available to the general public, including non-specialists.

The site allows to access and download of about 1500 historical photographs of archaeological content. The photographs are accompanied by short descriptions, which are particularly useful for non-specialists in order to make the images more understandable. Scholars on the other hand, will be able to use the material in geographical order, with minimal but fundamental information for identifying the site or area in question.

At present, the study of the material preserved in the Museo Egizio Photographic Archive is still in progress.

Therefore, only part of the Archive is available online, accessible to everyone without registration, and is constantly subject to updates.

We hope that the publication of this material will serve as an archival source for specialists who will be able to access such information more easily.

We hope even more so that the vast public of non-specialists will experience a distant world, now alive only through the objects on display in the Museum's showcases.
