For the series of talks as part of "Paesaggi/Landscapes," we invite you to join us on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 6:30 PM at Gallerie d'Italia – Torino for the talk between artist Sara Sallam and curator Paolo Del Vesco on the various (dis)connections between archaeological landscapes and museum halls. The discussion will be moderated by Marina Paglieri.
What is the role of photographic archives in shaping the interpretations of these landscapes and the historical narratives intertwined around them? This is one of the questions that will be explored in the dialogue between Sallam, a young artist of Egyptian origin based in the Netherlands, engaged in multidisciplinary artistic research using photography, writing, video installations, and Paolo Del Vesco, an archaeologist and Egyptologist. Starting from some of Sallam's recent works (Home Outside of Home, A Layer of Salt for My Oblivion, Piercing the Architectural Frame) and a selection of pairs of archival and contemporary photographs that show "archaeologized" landscapes, Sallam and Del Vesco will reflect on how artistic interventions that reinvent landscapes and frame the past could not only offer critical insights into the Western historical perspective but also inspire new curatorial practices within archaeological museums.
The event is free with mandatory reservation on Eventbrite. Click HERE to book your place.
The meeting will also be available via streaming on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
"Paesaggi/Landscapes" is a cultural project where photography and video art meet archaeology and ancient Egypt. The initiative is part of a three-year agreement between the Fondazione Museo delle Antichità Egizie and Intesa Sanpaolo, aimed at the development and dissemination of culture and art.
From June 13 to September 12, 2024, at Gallerie d'Italia – Torino, "Paesaggi/Landscapes" will feature an immersive installation, free to visit, and a series of free-entry talks that will bring together photographers, artists, and Egyptologists.
