On Tuesday 16th May 2023, at 6 pm, in collaboration with ACME (Amici e Collaboratori del Museo Egizio) we will host a lecture  held by Isabelle Régen.

The tomb of the priest Padiamenope is one of about fifteen monumental "Libraries in Stone" belonging to a Theban elite buried during the Kushite and Saite periods in the Asasif necropolis (floruit of Padiamenope: ca. 680-660 BCE). Within this small elite community, tomb TT 33 is often considered to offer the most massive and ostentatious illustration of the construction of the memorial identity of the deceased. Created in 2004, the French Mission in the Tomb of Padiamenope (TT 33) has the initial objective of copying, editing and studying the texts of this gigantic monument, including more than 2600 m2 of decorated walls. The epigraphic mission was initiated in 2006, following the inventory, photography and removal in 2004-2005 of the antiquities stored in the "Storeroom" 33. Since 2017, a conservation and restoration mission has been added to the text study mission.

Isabelle Régen (Ph.D., Montpellier 2002) is an Egyptologist and a former Scientific Member of the IFAO in Cairo (French Institute of Oriental Archaeology, 2003-2007). Her research interests include in particular ancient egyptian funerary religion (lexicography, rituals and texts).  She is the co-director of the French Epigraphical Mission in the Tomb of Padiamenope (Petamenophis, TT 33, Dyn. 25-26) where she has been working since the creation of the mission in 2004 (joint team from the IFAO, Strasbourg and Montpellier (UMR 5140-ASM) universities, with the support of the Fonds Khéops pour l’Archéologie, Paris). She is in charge of the editio princeps of two TT 33 netherworld books (Amduat and Book of the Gates).

Introduction: Christian Greco, director of Museo Egizio.

The event will be held in English, free admission to the conference room subject to availability.
