On Monday 7th November 2022, at 6 pm, the Museo Egizio will host the lecture of the contemporary artist Sara Sallam on the occasion of her exhibition "Through Tutankhamun’s Eyes: Alternative Perspectives on Egyptology ", on display at the Museo Egizio from 4th November 2022 until 31st January 2023.
Sara Sallam is an Egyptian artist based in the Netherlands, who works with photography, film, and writing, often also re-appropriating archival material and self-publishing handmade books. Through her work, Sallam reflects on the colonial attitudes embedded in tourism, archaeology, museum practices, and photographic archives. In this lecture she will present her exhibition, currently on display at the Museo Egizio, and other works, in which archaeology, Egyptology and museum collections are the main subjects of her anti-colonial criticism. All of Sara Sallam’s projects, in various ways, call for a radical paradigm shift and a drastic transformation of one’s own perspective. Her work has been exhibited internationally and features in private collections in Australia, Belgium, and Switzerland.

Speakers:

  • Paolo Del Vesco, Curator of Museo Egizio

  • Christian Greco, Director of Museo Egizio

  • Sara Sallam, Artist of the exhibition .

The event will be held in English at the Conference Room of the Museo Egizio.
