From Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Open until January 12, 2025, the exhibition, curated by Enrico Barbero, explores the role of King Carlo Felice of Savoy in founding the Museo Egizio. Ascending to the throne in 1821, Carlo Felice completed the purchase of the collection belonging to Consul Bernardino Drovetti in 1823, transforming Turin into a European cultural capital.

On display are portraits of members of the House of Savoy, including the bronze bust of Carlo Felice (1827) from the Museums of Cagliari and the plaster bust of Maria Cristina of Bourbon (1826) from the Castle of Racconigi, both works by Andrea Galassi. These are exhibited alongside Egyptian-style furnishings, such as the drop-front desk from Palazzo Chiablese and the kneeler from the Castle of Agliè, which reflect the taste for the style that spread across Europe after Napoleon's campaign in Egypt.

The exhibition also highlights the royal couple's artistic patronage and archaeological interest, documented by Roman artifacts from excavations in Tusculum and Veii, which enriched the Savoy collections.

Come and discover how the Egyptian antiquities collection in Turin was born over two centuries ago, driven by the House of Savoy’s desire to elevate the city with mythical origins.
