From Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
From today begins a new archaeological mission of the joint mission of the Museo Egizio and the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden at Saqqara. From 2015 the mission investigates a necropolis datable to the New Kingdom; this year, the excavation area could bring to light a tomb.
Like last year, the mission will be supported by the 3D Survey Group, Department ABC, of the Politecnico di Milano, which will perform underground scans. With them, also The Friends of Saqqara Foundation, a restorer and an anthropologist (scholar of human remains).
The team is directed by Lara Weiss, curator of the Egyptian section of the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and by Christian Greco, director of the Museo Egizio. The project is co-financed by the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
To experience the emotions of an archaeological excavation and stay updated on all new discoveries, do not miss the excavation diary, online every Friday! The first episode is scheduled for Friday, March 22.
