The research is grounded in a typological, chronological, and functional analysis of shabti containers. The first phase addresses the methodological definition of the category, examining whether shabti box models, boxes, and vessels constitute a single class or distinct groups. This is followed by a comparative study of the materials, integrating morphological and iconographic analysis with an examination of archaeological contexts and sites of origin. The project also encompasses the study of the biography of the objects held at the Museo Egizio, reconstructing the historical circumstances of their acquisition and circulation. The final catalogue will present, for each artefact, a description, translation of inscriptions, prosopographic analysis of the owners, and historical and social contextualisation, accompanied by a comprehensive photographic apparatus.
